Summaries All parents and carers can receive an automatic email summary from Google Classroom for each of their students. You can choose the frequency of the emails - daily or weekly. Guardian email summaries include information about: • Class activity —Announcements, assignments, and questions recently posted by teachers • Missing work —Work that is overdue at the time the email was sent • Upcoming work —Work that’s due today and tomorrow (for daily emails) or work that’s due in the upcoming week (for weekly emails) In many ways, a guardian email summary works as a personalised email mailing list - inviting you to subscribe then sending regular emails. A sample guardian email summary is shown on the next page. How do I sign up? As long as the email address the MPSC have stored in Sentral is correct, you can just sit back and wait. In 2021, invitations will be sent out In the first couple of week of term in 2021, you should receive an email from Google Classroom inviting you to receive a Guardian Email Summary. Once you sign up, you will begin receiving emails from Google Classroom every week (or day if you prefer). Do I need a Google Account to receive email summaries? No. Guardians are not required to create a Google account to receive the email summaries - upon clicking “Accept” to the invitation email you will be sent weekly summaries. But if you wish to change the frequency of emails (from weekly to daily) or view which students are connected with your account, you would need to create a Google account if you do not already have one. You can use any existing email address to sign-up for a Google account. Google Classroom - Guardian Email Who will receive Guardian Email Summaries? Guardian email invitations will be sent to any/all parent email addresses stored on the system for current MPSC students (barring any restrictions). Students can have more than one guardian email address attached to their account if needed. Should I download the Google Classroom app or login to the website? No. Google Classroom does not offer direct login access to parents and guardians, so parents do not need to use the Google Classroom app or access the website. Instead, offering regular email updates should provide parents and guardians with an easy way of keeping in-touch with their student’s learning. How does this fit with other school communication? Google Classroom emails are an additional communication channel that is brand new and designed as an additional way of helping partner with parents. Sentral is still our overarching student administration system, Google Classroom is more focused on the learning in individual classes from day to day.
